The Herat-Iran railway connects Herat province with the Khwaf region of Iran and aims to facilitate trade and transportation linkage between the two countries and facilitate Afghan exports to the gulf and Europe. The construction for the railway was financially and technically assisted by Iran, and started over six years ago.
