Promise Background
Machalgho Dam is a multipurpose project located on the Machalgho River about 28 Km north of Gardiz town in Paktia Province. Machalgho is designed for power production and domestic water supply to 10 villages and to irrigate about 1,824 hectares of land. A Russian construction company began work in 2010, but the project is not completed due to financial shortages and security threats. (http://www.designgroup.in/ongoing/machalgho.html). During his pre-election campaign, President Ghani promised to complete the construction of the Machalgho water dam in Paktia.
