Afghanistan's highways are vital economic and personal transport links that have been plagued with insecurity, abductions and high casualty incidents. Securing Afghanistan's highways was one of the main priorities of the President Ghani, as outlined in his Manifesto of Continuity and Change.

Status Details:  

June, 2015: The high number of attacks and abductions on Afghanistan's highways have continued to date. Most recently Afghanistan's Hazara ethnic group have been repeatedly targeted on highway attacks with passengers abducted on the Farah-Herat highway and the Kabul-Kandahar highway.
